Jumping the gun

UPDATE***  I wrote this post a day ago and honestly had not been tethered for at least a day prior to that.  I got a call from wind tech support, a really helpful guy explained to me that they had repaired something on their network and wanted to know if I have experienced any improvement.... Well, I had to be honest and tell him that I had not been tethered for a bit and so after getting off the phone with him I hooked up...  YAY!!!  They seem to have fixed the problem entirely!

WAY TO GO WIND!
HIGH FIVE!!!

So this top bit is simply an edit to the previous post aptly named "JUMPING THE GUN"
Cheers!

It's been roughly one month since signing up with Wind mobile...  And dispite some glitches, I have gone and purchased another phone... How the heck could I refuse?  I mean here I am a month after purchasing the first phone at $150, a Huawei phone pronounced "oo-Wah-Way" plus the 45 dollar all you can eat plan.  Then wind's website announces they have cut the voice plans by 50 percent for the next six months... WHAT???  So I now have a second wind phone, also a Huawei not the touch screen model.  The monthly plan on this new phone including my unlimited text add on is going to cost me 12 dollars per month for the next 6 months... after that it will go back to the regular rate of 15 dollars plus the 5 dollar add on...  20 bucks for basic cell phone service, Wind you've impressed me again!~  The Voice plan on it works great when in a wind home zone and when signal strength is high.  however in fringe areas like inside Lowes or Rona hardware stores the phone is not so good.  My basement also seems to present a challenge, but I suspect that is just par for the course when setting up a new cell phone network from scratch...

I have decided after much debate that I will cancel the unlimited data plan at the end of the month until they get their data towers in my local area working properly. The constant disconnects when tethered to my laptop is enough to make me want to rip my hair out...  I have not tested the data tether in other locations since I really just work from home, but from what I've been told by tech support and their top customer service representatives they are planning to have a new tower in the fringe areas of my city before summers end.  And that is when I will begin paying for the unlimited data plan again...  Until then, there really isn't much point.  I like my hair, and would really like to keep it out of the keyboard and on my head!

Now to comment on customer service with this company...

My first gripes were not with the voice service, even though it suffers a bit in fringe areas.  My big beef was with the data plan... So I made a few calls to first level tech support and got nowhere, was beginning to get frustrated.  Then I started to blog about it and posted a link to the said blog on wind's website, chat/forum whatever...  Well being a geek and twitter head I began to talk with my friends about the problems on twitter and facebook etc, and very efficiently someone from wind picked up on the conversation and asked me to give it another chance.  So I called tech support and spent more of my time trying to work out the bugs...  Through a few patient phone calls and some detailed emails I was directed to higher customer service.  I want to add that every front end tech support person at wind was extremely polite and quite intelligent while reading their flow chart type guides...  "Have you tried turning  your computer off, then on again sir?"  Along the entire journey though, I was kept informed about areas they are working on and things I should try on my end.  Over all I was satisfied with their customer care department.  I mean lets face it, all new staff trying to get a grip on this HUGE network of cell phones and of course lets not forget the more technical data plans...  I give all the people at wind a serious high five for the way they handled my issues.  This, even though the data issue isn't solved at this time.  I am fully confident that they are working on it as they said and will correct the issue soon enough...

That being said, I will not pay 45 bucks per month for a laptop tether that just simply keeps disconnecting.  Especially when I'm trying to keep up with the latest episode of Kirstie Alley's Big Life...

That's all for now,
And I do recommend that you go ahead and buy that wind phone.  They are a great company so far going through some growing pains.  But it sure does satisfy me to tell the other big companies where to shove their outragrously expensive phone service...

Cheers!
