Wind mobile review...

OK so it has been around two weeks now since we purchased a "wind mobile" phone.  Our initial impression was that of excitement...  Finally a cell phone company with flat rates just like a home phone.  Now having read a lot of forums from existing customers I had the impression that the call quality and reliability would be crappy.  People complaining of dropped calls etc.  Well we have had this phone for a few weeks and regularily make calls to about 5 different locations throughout Canada and have not had a single dropped voice call.  The voice part of things seems to be really great at least from where I am here in Ontario, could be some areas still don't have good coverage.

Now that being said, we also decided to try the unlimited data plan for an extra 35 dollars...  Well I barely left wind's store when I got my first "Cannot Find Server" error.  Promptly I went back and sure enough when they tried to visit a site it went the first time...  So I left the store and continued to play with the phone while my wife shopped through the mall etc.  Youtube this, Email that... Seems to work pretty good but occasionally it woud not be able to find the server dispite having 4 and 5 bar signal strength and the 3G symbol in the upper left of the phone's screen.

My original intention for getting the unlimited data plan was of course not so I could surf on a tiny almost unreadable screen, I wanted to tether it to my laptop for real day to day use.  This is something that I have been dreaming of doing for over a decade, the possibilities are endless for me.  Anything from email on the go to a fully connected entertainment system for the car.  Streaming webcam from the car etc... All kinds of fun things a hobbiest like myself could dream up.  But that dream, at least until Wind fixes there network may be on hold.  You see, I am writing this blog with my newly tethered Hauwei phone, and being the middle of the night the connection has been solid for the past three hours with no disconnects.  However night after night I have proven to myself that during the day the tethering is almost unusable with disconnects happening anywhere from 5 seconds after connect to 10 minutes.  But at night after midnight it seems to work great (Good thing I work at night eh?)... A window of about 8 hours when I can use the tethering feature undisturbed...

I hope Wind gets... Ehem ... WIND of this blog and fixes the problem because I would really like to keep my monthly data plan with them and continue using their fast 3G network...

And it is fast, considering it's a phone connection I am still able to download large files at around 300kbps which I would say is reasonable.   Not sure what the upload rate is, can't be very good but who cares about upload, i'm not planning on running a porn server from the trunk of my car..... Hmmmm, woud that actually make money???

J/k, I'll write more reviews on my Experiences, so far I would say their unlimited voice plan deserves a thumbs up, kicks monkey butt... However the data plan needs a little work on their part...

Cheers!
