The great Cold of 2009

Well, as it would seem... Roughly 7 months after transplant, Mom's gone and caught a cold from the rest of us...  Try as we did, we could not keep the nasty little virus out of her system...  So now after advising the transplant coordinator she will nurse the cold as anyone would but will be watching closely for signs of congestion which will certainly mean that she will be hospitalized for a while...

New lungs are fantastic, but the rejection factor remains to be the biggest obstacle in transplantation...  Overall though it is a very successful way of not just saving lives as it did in my mother's case but more importanly, improving quality of life...  She has been so free for the past 7 months and while she hasn't done much in the way of sky diving or joining a rowing club...  She's enjoyed freedom to move about and help with the kids in ways she previously could not even comprehend...

Her first storm, (the cold) I will keep you updated on...

Cheers~!
